Christopher O’Riley to judge Competition!

img_Christopher-ORileyWe are excited to announce that Christopher O’Riley of NPR’s “From The Top” will be one of the three judges for the Competition. The May 28th concert will include performances by the judges, the Franklin Pond Quartet, and, of course, the Competition winners. Mark the date on your calendars now and don’t miss this wonderful opportunity for a delightful afternoon of chamber music at Spivey Hall.

Summer Finale Concert

Our Summer Finale Concert was held on Tuesday, July 26. The day before was our last Monday coaching and a run-through of the concert for the next day with Jun-Ching Lin presiding. We did something differently this year for the concert and have gotten a lot of good feedback about it. The students introduced themselves and the pieces they were playing and did a great job of it. They played equally as well. It’s just remarkable they learned all this music in 4 weeks (and more for the Community Concerts) and played it so beautifully.

These photos were all taken by Julia Simmons, a violinist and alumna of Franklin Pond. A board member said the concert made her heart sing! Many bravos to all!

Summer Finale Concert – Tuesday, July 26

Please make plans to come to our Summer Finale Concert. It’s FREE and open to the public! All the very talented groups from this summer have worked hard to present another outstanding concert. This year the faculty trio of Atlanta Symphony Orchestra musicians will be performing, and students, faculty, and alumni will join together for the finale. As one of our wonderful audience members said this week at a Community Concert, “these kids make MUSIC, not noise”!  Indeed they do. Come and enjoy a very musical evening with us. Thank you to Fulton County Arts and Culture, Sandy Springs Society, the Loridans Foundation, and our many generous donors for making our Summer program possible!

Franklin Pond’s Summer program is a unique chamber-music program for talented pre-college musicians grades 7-12. Created as an opportunity for serious students to interact personally with highly qualified professionals, this program offers coaching with musicians from the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, master classes with guest artists from all over the United States, and special classes in related disciplines. Students prepare for a final concert as well as informal community concerts. Participating students will go on a retreat to Berry College, then meet one full day per week in July before the Summer Finale Concert in Atlanta.

Tuition: $1,550 (scholarships available with audition and teacher recommendation)
