July 26-29, 2013: Jekyll Island Retreat

July 26-29, 2013: Jekyll Island Retreat

Franklin Pond Chamber Music (FPCM) will play two concerts at Mistletoe Cottage in the Historic District of Jekyll Island July 27th and 28th, both at 7:00.   The Saturday, July 27th concert will feature the Franklin Pond Quartet, all members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and guest artist Christina Smith, principal flutist of the ASO.  They will play works by Mozart, Smetana and Sam Viguerie, a multi-talented Franklin Pond student cellist.  The Sunday concert will feature the sixteen students of Franklin Pond in a varied program which will include the Dvorak Sextet, a Glazunov quintet, a Beethoven trio, and a Ravel duo. After nine years, this will be the farewell year for Franklin Pond Chamber Music at Jekyll Island.

The Jekyll Island Authority and the generous members of the Jekyll Island Arts Association have partnered for the last 9 years to bring FPCM to the island.  The students enjoy staying with JIAA members who give them loving homes for the weekend, thanks to the organizational skills of island resident Alice Jarrett.   “We are going to miss Jekyll so much”, says Founder and Artistic Director Ronda Respess.  “After nine summers, we treasure our relationships with many of the wonderful residents of the island and we love playing in Mistletoe, the perfect setting for chamber music. Many thanks to the Jekyll Island Authority and the Jekyll Island Arts Association for your generous support throughout the years.”
