Competition Judges
Acclaimed for his engaging and deeply committed performances, Christopher is known to millions as the host of NPR’s “From the Top.” His repertoire spans a kaleidoscopic array of music from the pre-baroque to present-day. He performs around the world and has garnered widespread praise for his untiring efforts to reach new audiences.
Sergiu Schwartz is a professor and The William B. and Sue Marie Turner Distinguished Faculty Chair in Music at Schwob School of Music in Columbus, Georgia. His international concert appearances have taken him to major music centers on four continents, including twenty European countries, Israel, Asia, Canada, and over forty U. S. states, as soloist with orchestras, in recitals and chamber music concerts.
Bruce Uchimura is professor of music at Western Michigan University where he conducts the University Symphony Orchestra, teaches cello, and coaches chamber ensembles. He joined the faculty in the fall of 1987, having taught previously at the Augusta College Center for Creative Arts, Michigan State University, and the Preparatory and Adult Education department of the Cleveland Institute of Music.
All three judges and the Franklin Pond faculty will perform at the Final Winner’s Concert (Sunday, May 28), as well as the winning student groups. Mark the date on your calendars now and don’t miss this wonderful opportunity for a delightful afternoon of chamber music at Spivey Hall.
