Great Fun at Jekyll Island
This was our 7th year on Jekyll Island. Along with two days of intense coaching, rehearsing and concerts, we had time for the beach, swimming, biking, and roaming around the Historic District. The Franklin Pond Quartet (faculty) gave a beautiful concert Saturday night and the students played their concert Sunday evening, both to packed houses and much praise.
Thanks to Alice Jarrett our kids are housed each year by twos with families on the island. Everyone, hosts and students, loves this arrangement. We have made some wonderful friends at Jekyll. This year Darrell Davidson, as in several years past, organized and took everyone on a bike ride around the island early Saturday morning and Gloria Zocci at the Turtle Center led us on a very interesting turtle walk. We ended the weekend with a pool party at the home of Joe and Nancy Kring Rowan. The Jekyll Island Arts Association helped us with the cost of the hotel for the faculty and gave us the use of Goodyear Cottage for rehearsals, and the Jekyll Island Authority gave us some delicious meals and the use of our very favorite venue, Mistletoe Cottage. Barbara and Bob Albright opened their home to Ronda and her family of chaperones. What a sterling example of community cooperation. We just couldn’t do this without all their help. THANK YOU JEKYLL ISLAND! We love you and can’t wait to come back next year.
