Franklin Pond Students and Faculty Perform in Side by Side Concert with ASO

Eight of our current students performed with other young musicians in a side-by-side concert with members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra on Thursday, June 30, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. in Atlanta Symphony Hall at the Woodruff Arts Center. The students participating in the event included David Chyan, violin; John Cooper, viola; Helena DeGrazia, violin; Bailey Holbrook, cello; Katherine Hur, viola; Noah Johnson, cello; Nicholas Lindell, violin; and Brian Song, cello. Our faculty also participated in this event. Jun-Ching Lin was concertmaster. Carolyn Hancock, Jennifer Humphries (the newest member of the Franklin Pond coaching staff), and Ronda Respess, the Franklin Pond founder and artistic director, all played in the orchestra.

The program featured “Jupiter” from Holst’s The Planets, the Fantasy Overture from Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet, and John Williams’s Star Wars Theme.  The concert marked the end of an intensive three-day orchestral workshop allowing students to participate in special coaching sessions with Atlanta Symphony musicians, sit next to Orchestra members in rehearsals, and receive up to 15 hours of musical instruction from Mr. Jere Flint.

Three current Franklin Pond cellists–Noah Johnson, Brian Song, & Bailey Holbrook–were shown in Creative Loafing’s CribNotes “Photo of the Day.”  A link to the Creative Loafing CribNote site is here: Photo of the Day, CribNotes
