Masterclass with Tom Key

Tom Key, well known actor and Artistic Director of Theatrical Outfit, worked with our students at the Pond today. He was absolutely fabulous and the kids seemed to have a good time. By the end of the masterclass, they were speaking with infinitely more self-assurance and not as shy about doing it. He worked on breathing, showing their own personality when they speak, looking people in the eye, and speaking so they can be heard.

BRAVO to all our Competition winners!

The list is posted on our Competition page. All fifteen groups who competed sounded wonderful in Spivey Hall and showed off the huge amount of work it took to produce that high quality. The joy is in the process as well as the final presentation. Thank you to each one of the students for sharing your talent. Whether you won or not, your groups made wonderful music and gave to the world, at that time and place, a work of art that can’t be duplicated, even by you! Thank you also to the coaches and parents who worked with and supported these students. We hope those of you who can will work with your groups or form new groups to compete again in 2018 on Memorial Day weekend.

January House Concert

One of our biggest joys is performing in a home. After all, that’s what “chamber” music was written for! In January, Jerry and Peggy Stapleton were gracious hosts to over 100 people, most of whom were new to Franklin Pond! We were thrilled that so many gathered to hear the Franklin Pond Quartet (all Franklin Pond faculty and Atlanta Symphony Orchestra musicians) and a student piano quintet from our Fall Into Spring program. Rusty Paul, mayor of Sandy Springs, came and spoke about the new Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center. Good music, good people, and good wine made for a delightful and rewarding afternoon.
