The people of Jekyll Island are welcoming us back for the fifth year. Students will rehearse and coach with faculty in two of the stately homes in Jekyll’s HistoricDistrict. These houses were once the summer palaces of America’s captains of industry and the Jekyll Island Museum graciously opens them for Franklin Pond. The faculty will play a full concert Saturday night and the student quartets will perform Sunday evening. All concerts in 2009 will be in Mistletoe Cottage, a perfect setting for chamber music.
Sponsored by the Jekyll Island Arts Association, this unique summer program of gifted students ages 12 through 18 will perform on Jekyll Island in late July. With guidance from outstanding masterclass artists and faculty from the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the students learn the virtues of creativity, self discipline, teamwork and the joy of playing music. This unique program fosters their listening and learning skills and elevates their performance across all disciplines.
